scolaEMF

Position

The role of the scolaEMF section within the EMF is to group together students from the ergonEMF and logusEMF professional sections in the first three years of learning to give them integrated vocational baccalaureate (MP) lessons or general knowledge (eCG) lessons. This section is exclusively technical for the time being, as the eikonEMF section still provides the artistic vocational baccalaureate within the EPAI craft and industrial school. However, this will be included in scolaEMF starting in 2013, when new federal regulations on the vocational baccalaureate go into effect.

Professional sections only offer initial vocational courses in French, while the vocational baccalaureate (MP) offer is available in French or in bilingual French and German. This enables the school to accept German-speaking students (in a French-speaking professional environment) and French-speaking students interested in developing their language skills through partial immersion in the German language.

Starting in 2012, a new option will be available for German-speaking candidates who do not yet have the necessary language skills to immerse themselves in French-speaking courses: A one-year preparatory course will be offered, which will allow them to attend initial vocational training in French at the EMF or at a company in Fribourg.

The second role of scolaEMF is to offer vocational baccalaureate classes for qualified professionals after they have completed their apprenticeship. This option is available in the technical field only, on a full-time basis, over one academic year. Lessons are available in French or in German.

Courses

Maturité Professionnelle (MPT)

Vocational Baccalaureate (MP)

The aim of the vocational baccalaureate is to provide students with extensive general knowledge, giving qualified professionals the education they need to continue tertiary-level studies in specialised schools (bachelor’s and possibly master’s). This course is in addition to their main one. Students may attend these lessons at the same time as their main course (integrated form) or after their main course (post-learning form).

TIP

Interdisciplinary Work Focused on a Project

Interdisciplinary work focused on a project (TIP) is necessary during the MP course, individually or as a group. This work is demanding and is an integral part of the assessment. It must involve at least two branches of the MP, hence the term interdisciplinary. The work includes a written report and an oral presentation.
