The EMF is organised in four sections.

Three professional sections – eikonEMF, ergonEMF and logusEMF – provide initial, full-time vocational training courses at the upper secondary level, as well as complementary preparatory classes. A core curriculum section – scolaEMF – provides courses in general knowledge subjects (eCG), according to Swiss requirements for initial vocational training, or professional baccalaureate classes in the form of an integrated learning approach (MP1).

Initial vocational training courses usually last four years. They terminate in a Certificat Fédéral de Capacité (CFC) in the profession studied. The majority of students study concurrently for the professional baccalaureate by taking MP1 classes, which are organised over the first three years of the course.
The course length may be reduced to three years for students who have special aptitudes, exhibit strong skills and meet criteria as determined at the end of the second year. This option applies only to students following the MP1 approach.

The eikonEMF section offers initial vocational training and preparatory training:

Visual Communication Preparatory Classes
Multimedia Designer (CFC) (two branches, four-year course or short course in three years without MP lessons for students with initial CFC/MG/ECG-level education)

The ergonEMF section offers three initial vocational courses:

Control Engineer (CFC)
Electronic Engineer (CFC)
Precision Mechanic (CFC)

The logusEMF section offers one initial vocational course:

Computer Scientist (CFC) (two parallel branches)

The scolaEMF section also offers vocational baccalaureate classes in the form of “post-learning” (MPT2), full-time over one year, for students with a CFC. These lessons are offered in French and German in a number of different fields.
The vocational baccalaureate certifies the graduate’s ability to study in a specialised university. Together with the CFC, it provides access to the same field in a specialised university (HES/HEAA) without the need to take an exam.
