The professional experience phase takes place in the fourth (and final) year of learning. Thirty weeks are devoted to developing in-depth operational skills within the framework of internships (15 weeks) and assignment work (15 weeks). The last six weeks of the fourth year are devoted to final certification work to obtain the CFC certificate.

Internships

For 15 weeks, apprentices have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a working environment. Numerous partner companies welcome trainees every year and allow them to work on various assignments while being supervised by specialists in the business sector. Work placements with a language component (mainly in one of the partner languages: German, French or English) are also possible. A partnership with the SOL-Leonardo exchange association offers a range of European countries and companies providing internships abroad. Specific support is also provided for work placements on other continents.

Assignment Work

A minimum of 15 weeks is devoted to internal or external assignment work. Within the framework of these assignments, students are immersed in the development of a variety of projects for the school or for external partners. From defining requirements to final implementation, project teams can develop their professional skills while being supervised by professionals who are project managers (professors in the section) and partners.

Examples of Internal Assignments

  • Educational sub-assemblies for the pneumatic and hydraulic laboratory
  • Orders for stepping motors

Examples of External Assignments

  • Card game support for disabled people
  • Prototype of a label-gluing machine for jars
  • Educational wheel for the natural history museum
  • Modification of a goniometer
  • PC control interface for models of the town of Fribourg
